About Me

Meet Tan Ai Fong: A Dedicated Physics Educator

For 45 years, Ms. Tan Ai Fong has been more than a Physics teacher — she has been a guide, mentor, and source of inspiration for countless students. With a career spanning A-Level (CAIE & Edexcel), STPM, and SPM Physics, she has shaped generations of learners with her clarity, dedication, and boundless passion for science.

What Students Have Said

Without her genuine dedication, I would not have come this far in my life.

I am Jun Hoe, and I completed my studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. Prior to my tertiary education, I undertook my A-Levels at Taylor’s College, Sri Hartamas, where I had the privilege of being taught and guided by Ms Tan Ai Fong.

Ms Tan is one of the best educators I have ever met. She is honest and genuinely dedicated to teaching. At the time, I was not a particularly bright student and was somewhat rebellious. Yet, not once did she raise her voice at me in class. She consistently demonstrated great patience in every possible way and made every effort to ensure our classes, including laboratory sessions, were engaging and interactive.

I had to retake my A-Level examination. I particularly remember my final sitting in 2009, after the formal course had ended, when I had to rely entirely on self-study. What stood out most to me was that, despite having already fulfilled her teaching responsibilities, Ms Tan was empathetic enough to assist me when I reached out for help in preparing for my Physics re-examination. I sought her guidance twice a week over the course of five months until I completed my exam. She never asked for anything in return; her only wish was that I pass and be able to continue my studies.

Thanks to her support, I went on to complete both a Master of Engineering and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. I am deeply grateful for Ms Tan’s guidance and unwavering support. I wholeheartedly vouch that she is an exceptional educator and mentor.

What truly stood out about Ms Tan was her unwavering dedication to her students.

I had the privilege of studying A-Level Physics under Ms Tan Ai Fong at HELP Damansara Heights. With her guidance, I achieved an A grade with a score of 89, and I can confidently say that her teaching was instrumental to my success.

She consistently went above and beyond her teaching responsibilities, always making herself available outside of working hours to help those who sought extra guidance. No question was ever too trivial or “ridiculous” for her. She welcomed every inquiry with patience and enthusiasm, as long as it sparked our curiosity and deepened our understanding.

Her approach to lab work was equally commendable. She remained calm and patient throughout practical sessions, ensuring that each of us not only completed the experiments but genuinely understood the physics behind them. She fostered a learning environment where we felt encouraged, supported, and motivated to explore beyond the syllabus.

Ms Tan Ai Fong is the kind of educator who leaves a lasting impact, and I believe any institution would be incredibly fortunate to have her on their team.
